A member may require more cover than the day-to-day benefits provided by an option.
The purpose of Health Saver is to allow members to make provision for additional medical expenses incurred. Members can choose an affordable monthly amount that suits their individual needs.
Health Saver funds may be used to pay for any healthcare-related expenses. These may
include:

• any medication, provided it has a NAPPI code
• any service rendered by a registered healthcare provider, provided it has an ICD10 code
• claims that exceed available Scheme benefits, such as specialised dentistry and refractive eye surgery
• treatment that is excluded by the Scheme, such as cosmetic surgery and other cosmetic procedures
• any co-payments payable for hospitalisation, MRI and CT scans, or chronic medication.
  
  
  Claims are submitted and paid via the normal administration process and members will receive monthly statements reflecting their available balance.
  
  Members have the flexibility to choose a credit facility, or Pure Saver. If they choose the credit facility, they can either specify an affordable monthly repayment amount (minimum of R135 including administration fee) or specify the annual credit amount that suits their financial need (minimum of R1 200 and maximum of R18 000 per year). If members do not choose the credit facility, they can specify a monthly minimum of R135 or a single minimum contribution of R1 700. A monthly administration fee of R16 is charged, but there are no transaction fees.
  
  Interest is calculated at the end of each month on the daily change in the Health Saver balance, according to the following rates: prime plus 6% is charged on negative balances and prime minus 8.5% is paid on positive balances. Cash withdrawals and transfers are not allowed.
